Every day, 3.5 billion web searches are conducted across the world. If you could harness a small amount of that traffic, it could transform your practice. Do you know how to do it?

It comes down to your website and a concept called search engine optimization (SEO). Read on as we discuss how to improve your SEO strategy.

Keyword Preparation

Your SEO strategy starts with keywords. These are words people type into search engines to get results. If you know what people are looking for, you can use the keywords to answer their questions on your site.

Before you begin searching for keywords, do a little preparation first. Start by folding a paper into three. In each column, you will write down general topics and words that may be associated with your practice.

Column one should be general words and phrases you think people may type into a search engine related to your business. The second column should contain terms related to local SEO, such as phrases with your local state or town in it. In the third column, write down any specific questions people may type into search engines.

Keyword Research Tools

There are a number of keyword research tools on the market to help you find the words you need.

Two great options for free SEO keyword searches are Ubersuggest and Answer the Public. Semrush is a great paid option.

To start looking for keywords, type in the phrases that you wrote down. Ideally, you are looking for ones that have good search volumes but low competition.

You should then be able to whittle your list down to some pretty strong keywords. Some tools may even have suggested keywords or phrases, so don’t forget to check them out and add if necessary.

Online Marketing With Content

Once you have your keywords, you need to work out what to do with them. When people type the term into a search engine, the engine sees that you have relevant content on your website and directs the person to it.

However, it would not be feasible or wise to fit all these keywords and terms into your existing pages (which is called “keyword stuffing” and can get you penalized by search engines). They may also look out of place in contact pages and home pages.

Service pages and blogs are good places to start.

Creating Ongoing Blog Content

The golden rule of content creation is to make it relevant. Your content needs to answer a question or solve a problem/pain point of your ideal client. Your keywords should be spread throughout the article, ideally in the first 100 words, then continued sporadically throughout the body of the text in natural ways.

Creating ongoing quality content that will result in organic SEO results takes time and experience. If you do not have time to dedicate to it, you may want to consider hiring a content creation professional (like us!) for this part of the process.

Embrace Email Marketing

Now that you have the content and keywords, you need to get it out there. Aside from waiting for people to pick it up on search engines, you can give it an extra push through email marketing.

Creating a stellar lead magnet funnel is a great way to build an email list that you can then utilize to automatically send out your latest and greatest blog posts.

Email marketing is a long game that should be played slowly and steadily but is a great way to make your SEO-optimized blog posts work harder for you by turning cold leads into warm leads and then into raving fans who share your content even further.

Backlinks are an essential function of search engine optimization. Backlinks are known as off-page SEO, which is a factor that exists outside of your website to influence its SEO score.

A backlink is a link from one website to another. They act as a recommendation. If the search engines see you have lots of backlinks, they look favorably on your website and direct more traffic to it.

However, not every backlink is the same. More authoritative websites have stronger links. So a link from a huge global company website may be better than 100 individual ones from smaller companies.

Gaining backlinks can be challenging and takes time so you may want to hire an SEO specialist to create backlinks for you. In addition, if you get a backlink from the wrong site, it can penalize your SEO score.

Guest posting is another great option which means creating a piece of content to go on someone else’s website, then earning a link from it to your website.

SEO Strategy

While these SEO tips are just a dip in the water, they can give your practice a solid start to building backlinks, an email marketing presence, and quality, keyword-rich content.
